AI will transform services procurement
Services procurement is extremely manual. Systems like Coupa and Ariba were not built for them. However, AI will change the game.
I truly admire those who buy services in large companies!
The patience and resilience required to handle the day-to-day in large corporations is something supernatural.
The process is an endless back-and-forth:
- scopes that are super incomplete and hard to understand
- finding the specialist supplier for that service in a giant list, without any filter
- the equalization of 50-page proposals
Coupa and Ariba were created for materials, not services. The consequence is clear: they end up becoming a system that just passes along a scope, an RFQ, a proposal. They don't add real value to the process.
This journey will be completely redesigned in the coming years. With AI, it is possible to understand what needs to be purchased and build the scope automatically, ensuring that all standards and technical details are already there.
The era of the "e-proc attachment" is ending.
